Looking for images the travel photographer is always searching a better viewpoint. Australian photographers are luck to have such good light. Travel photography is more dramatic with interesting destinations and travel photographers love intense light.
Photographs from Australia. Images from Sydney and around the country. Andy is a Sydney photographer of 30 years specialising in travel photography. Photographs from India, Bali, France, Spain, Peru, Chile, Egypt, Mexico, England, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and USA. Travel photography including portraiture and landscapes featuring people and places. Sydney Photographers are lucky to work with beautiful locations and intense light. Photography translates as "writing with light" and it is particularly important for travel photography.
Tips. Learn to recognise a great photograph. Go to galleries, take your time, decide which photographs excite you most. What choices did the photographer make? What caught the photographer's eye. If you understand the work of the best travel photographer's you will be better placed when doing your own travel photography.
Travel begins at home so try looking at your own environment through the eyes of a travel photographer. Set yourself projects, choose a theme or topic that a travel photographer coming to your country might shoot.
If you are based in Europe you can take advantage of the cheap air travel. Photographers have a huge range of destinations to choose from. Travel whithin the USA is also great value. There are a number of online resources for travel photographer's on the net. One of of my favourites is Travel Photographers Network
The right photographic gear is important but don't get bogged down. Travel photography is best suited to a DSLR. You can of course use a compact camera, but if you want to sell your travel photographs the larger sensor/less noise of a DSLR is pretty much essential. I strongly recommend shooting all your travel photographs in RAW mode for maximum quality.Don't expect to make a lot of money out of your travel photography. The market is saturated with images from travel photographer's both amateur and professional. However if your travel photography is first rate you should be able to offset some of your travel costs.
Travel photographers are in their element with the intense light, brightly painted buildings and colourful clothing of the locals. Photography aside the town has much to offer, great food, music and a Zocala full of locals strolling of an evening.
