The right photographic gear is important but don't get bogged down. Travel photography is best suited to a DSLR. You can of course use a compact camera, but if you want to sell your travel photographs the larger sensor/less noise of a DSLR is pretty much essential. I strongly recommend shooting all your travel photographs in RAW mode for maximum quality.Don't expect to make a lot of money out of your travel photography. The market is saturated with images from travel photographer's both amateur and professional. However if your travel photography is first rate you should be able to offset some of your travel costs.

Travel photographers are in their element with the intense light, brightly painted buildings and colourful clothing of the locals. Photography aside the town has much to offer, great food, music and a Zocala full of locals strolling of an evening.
